DUMAS, Frank, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Saturday, March, 6, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.
He was a giving, kind, phenomenal man who was profoundly dedicated to his family. He was born July 27, 1927 in Weirton, West Virginia. He attended Warwood High School and graduated from Milligan College. He earned his Master's Degree from West Virginia University. He also served in the United States Marine Corps. and was discharged with the rank of major.
He taught and coached at Wheeling Central Catholic High School, Triadelphia High School, and St. Clairsville High School where he became principal. He worked one year at Wheeling Steel Corporation before he became the Superintendent of the Switzerland of Ohio County School District and then the Assistant Superintendent of the then newly consolidated Switzerland of Ohio Local School District. For 21 years, he was devoted to the students, professional staff, and service personnel of Ohio County Schools as their Assistant Superintendent. Before his retirement from education, he served as the Superintendent of the Barnesville Exempted Village School District.
He was a member of the Ohio and West Virginia Retired Teacher's Association, former member of the Civitans, and a member of the AARP's state legislative committee. He was baptized and raised in the Russian Orthodox Church, and upon arriving in Wheeling, attended St. Michael's Church.
He enjoyed sports in all capacities, although his true joy came from his time spent on a tennis court. Through that passion, he helped start a program in Ohio County Schools that introduced elementary students to the game.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sophia Dumisinecz, as well as his brothers, John Dumisinecz, Charles Dumisinecz, and sisters, Anne Kline, Josephine Halavonich and Mary Dumisinecz.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Beverly, along with their children and families: Frank Jeffrey Dumas, his wife, Elizabeth, of Wheeling, and children, Peter, Brad, Katrina, Jessica, Nicole and Daniel; Brad Dumas, of Fullerton, California; David Dumas, his wife, Lisa and their children Cole and Taylor of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; Rhea Kay Rodgers, her husband Dwaine, and children, McKenzie and Spencer of Wheeling, seven great-grandchildren, and his sister, Helen Dumisinecz, of Warwood.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 20 2010 at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to either, the Ohio County Schools Foundation, Frank Dumas Tennis Scholarship Fund or St. Michael Parish, Wheeling.
