PETROZZI, Rocco A. "Rocky," 88, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2008, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 19, 1920, in Mingo Junction, a son of the late Loreto and Mary (Morrocco) Petrozzi.
Rocco retired in 1977, after 33 years of service, from the U.S. Postal Service; and was the founder and operator, for many years, of the Harmony Car Wash in Georges Run. He was a lifelong member of St. Bernadette and St. Agnes Parishes in Mingo Junction; and was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4361 from 1966-1967. Rocco served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, serving with the 57th Bomb Wing of the 12th Air Force as a B-25 Crew Chief. During his deployment, he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Corsica. He was a member of the Mingo American Legion Post No. 351.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Alfonso Petrozzi; two sisters, Palma (Patrick) Cassidy and Adeline (Henry) Paravano; and a sister-in-law, Marie Petrozzi.
Rocco is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Minda (DiFabbio), whom he married August 9, 1945; three sons, Rocco (Janice) Petrozzi of Mingo Junction, Lawrence (LeeAnn) Petrozzi of Lisbon, Ohio, and John (Deborah) Petrozzi of Westerville, Ohio; a daughter, Rita (Jerome) Carubia of Mingo Junction; four brothers, Armand Petrozzi of Brilliant, Louis (Mary) Petrozzi of Naples, Fla., Dominic (Marianne) Petrozzi of Mingo Junction and Atillio (Louise) Petrozzi of St. Clairsville, Ohio; two sisters, Pearl Everson of Westerville, and Lucille (James) Riley of St. Clairsville; two sisters-in-law, Ellen and Annette Petrozzi; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his family, Rocky's passions were cooking, gardening and watching Steeler Football, all of which he did until the week before his passing.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction.
On Thursday, everyone is to meet at St. Agnes Catholic Church for a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville.
