I who: The cheapest power is nuclear. It also has no CO2.Gas rivals coal when one considers the relatively cheap cost to construct gas power stations. The project in Beckley was DOD related. Rahall turned his nose up at it. Coal is a goner now. It will not come back. Understand LNG export is a big factor in this which is not being mentioned. The US will now pressure India and China to use USA export gas for power. Kerry was just there doing so. Dozens of LNG ships are under construction now in preparation for USA exports.

We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that. — Thomas Alva Edison

The sun, wind, and water are alive and well as real energy sources. On 4th Avenue in Tucson I saw a whole city business building powered solely by solar panels used as carports for shaded parking. And I can't tell you how many windmills I saw in Texas and Kansas. It was astounding! Canada has been successfully utilizing hydroelectric energy for decades. You're brainwashed by the coal/steele valley if you don't recognize the elemental forces as our supreme energy...clean and renewable.

atoddh - Manufacturing jobs aren't going to replace coal jobs. Once coal is gone the price of power will be so high that no one will buy the expensive products. They don't buy them now why would they when the costs go up? China and India laugh at us and our stupidity. The LOVE Obambam.

In May, Marc Morano, publisher of ClimateDepot**** and a former member of the staff of the U.S. Senate Environmental & Public Works Committee submitted written testimony to the committee.

“The scientific reality is that on virtually every claim—from A-Z—the claims of the promoters of man-made climate fears are failing,” wrote Morano, “and in many instances the claims are moving in the opposite direction. The global warming movement is suffering the scientific death of a thousand cuts.”

“There is no evidence,” wrote Morano, “we are currently having any unusual weather.” Weather events such as the Moore, Oklahoma tornado and the sub-tropical storm Sandy that hit the northeast are normal occurrences despite the damage they inflicted.

In The Wall Street Journal in May, Princeton University physicist Dr. William Happer and NASA moonwalker and geologist, Dr. Harrison H. Schmitt wrote that “Thanks to the single-minded demonization of this natural and essential atmospheric gas by advocates of government control of energy production, the conventional wisdom about carbon dioxide is that it is a dangerous pollutant. That’s simply not the case.”

Literally thousands of scientists around the world have disputed the IPCC “science” and many former “warmists” have reversed their former beliefs. Dr. Lennart Bengtsson, a top Swedish climate scientist, formerly affiliated with the IPCC, said in February “We are creating great anxiety without it being justified…there are no indications that the warming is so severe that we need to panic…

“The warming we have had the last 100 years is so small that, if we didn’t have meteorologists and climatologists to measure it, we wouldn’t have noticed it at all.”

Big Lie of global warming/climate change Despite President Obama’s incessant claims that the Earth is heating, scientists in both Russia and China have been publishing data from scientific studies disputing the Big Lie of global warming/climate change.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences—50,000 members strong—recently published “Climate Change Reconsidered and Climate Change Reconsidered: 2011 Interim Report”, two hefty volumes with more than 1,200 pages of peer-reviewed data on climate change published by The Heartland Institute in 2009 and 2011

The low IQ lemmings have no clue!!

Coal to gasoline is a JOKE!!

You simply CAN'T get more energy out of CONVERTING energy to another substance!!

It's simply impossible!

If you convert 1000 joules of coal energy to 500 joules of gasoline, how do thes brain dead idiots think this is a GAIN?????

Must be new math they taught these brainiacs!

Proof positive that tree huggers are merely mindless lemmings that are easily brainwashed!!!

USEFUL IDIOTS!!!

WV and the NR are trying to cling to the past. This is why WV and Wheeling have declined. There is not one dollar available in WV for manufacturing (or other job creation) seed money starts. The trend is away from coal. Get used to it.

but if Obama's goal is less dependence on dirty fossil fuels why is he not behind clean burning natural gas and totally clean, totally reliable hydro electricity. That Obama does not mention, ever, establishing totally clean generators on major rivers already locked and dammed is testimony to the amount of lobby money he has taken from fat cat business people who are selling green baloney to Americans. Hydro. 24/7, 365, no emissions at all and totally renewable. And yet Obama is just about crushing coal, not establishing anything else worthwhile. If you believe that Bush was owned by oil, then you have to admit that obama is bought and paid for for the several hundred million dollars filtered his way by solar and turbine manufacturers who know that its not a source that can light a city or run a factory. The environments worst enemy is the politically motivated American greenie. Hydro has powered the South east for 75 yrs with zero emissions.

Princeton University, as well, along with a commercial spin-off company, "Liquid Light", in New Jersey, are establishing the basis of a commercial Carbon Dioxide recycling technology and business. For instance, late last year, Princeton was awarded: "US Patent 8,313,634 - Conversion of Carbon Dioxide to Organic Products; November 20, 2012; Inventors: Andrew Bocarsly and Emily Barton Cole; Assignee: Princeton University, NJ; Abstract: The invention relates to various embodiments of an environmentally beneficial method for reducing carbon dioxide. Government Interests: This invention was made with United States government support from National Science Foundation Grant No. CHE-0616475. The United States Government has certain rights in this invention. A method of converting carbon dioxide to provide at least ... ethanol." And, note, your tax money paid for that research, too, but you're not being told about it. Why?

Under Contract Number DE-AC02-05CH11231, your US Department of Energy, by the way, paid the University of California some of the tax money collected from you to develop a better catalyst to convert Carbon Dioxide into fuel alcohol at a lower energy cost. The project was quite successful, and US patents on the resultant technology have been applied for. Haven't been told about that, either, have you? Why?

Since we mentioned the fact, somewhere below, that Bayer Corporation is converting Coal power plant CO2 into plastics manufacturing raw materials at a Coal-fired power plant in Germany, we wanted to note that some reports have it that they're partnering there with Siemens, who are providing the CO2-capture tech, but, who also, as is revealed in: "United States Patent 7,989,507 - Production of Fuel ... Utilizing Waste Carbon Dioxide; 2011; Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft (AG), Munich, Germany", know how to convert Carbon Dioxide into gasoline. Again: Why aren't we being fully informed?

There are more coal miners as well as gas & oil workers employed today and for the past five years than perhaps ever before.

How can anyone deny cause and effect when it comes to greenhouse gasses and the toxins emitted by burning coal? Either complete ignorance or complete lying...

Rockefeller is right in his approach..the key is to build and implement alternative energy sources...starting in congress.

Even further, Methanol, fuel alcohol, trade named "Vulcanol", synthesized from industrial exhaust gas CO2 is being blended into gasoline and sold in filling stations in several European nations by the company "Carbon Recycling International", who were also, last year, awarded: "United States Patent 8,198,338 - Process for Producing Liquid Fuel from Carbon Dioxide and Water", which is a technology that converts reclaimed CO2 into gasoline and diesel. Why aren't we being informed?

The potentials for the productive, profitable utilization of CO2 are immense. As another "for instance", since we mentioned the conference they're hosting in DC in our post below: Just this May 14, Penn State University was awarded: "US Patent 8,440,438 - Electromethanogenic Reactor and Processes for Methane Production". It's a technology, that, using about as much voltage as you get from a flashlight battery, converts Carbon Dioxide into Methane, ie., substitute natural gas. Why aren't we being informed?
