"Out of control health care costs are NOT caused by cigarettes or tobacco. It is caused by soda, alcohol, prescription drugs, King Obama and McDonalds!" Spanky.

They are caused by smoking, excessive alcohol, poor diet, drugs (including misuse of prescription drugs) and lack of exercise. There may be some external factors (poor air quality, contaminated water, etc.) but its what we CHOOSE to do that has the greatest impact on our heath. With few exceptions, we are our our own worst enemy when it comes to health care.

I am in complete agreement with the writer. Health care is first and foremost the responsibility of the individual. Your body is your house - take care of it. If you dump trash in your house don't ask others to come and clean it up for you. If you dump trash in your body don't expect the rest of us to save your bacon. A house has to be given active maintenance if it is to remain a fit place to live. The same holds true for your body. If you are too lazy and slothful to do the minimum of physical exercise upkeep to maintain your body don't expect others to pay the tab for patching you together.

We have gotta be number one in the country in the lowest average IQ, highest number of angry people, and laziest. I guess that super size combo makes for irresponsible.

I think that when people take such high risk, they do not value their life. Its a passive suicide. Need to address the real issues here.

At last check, out of five bucks or so for a pack of smokes, about $1.01 goes to the federal government and funds the SChip program for children's health care. Yes that's correct, I SMOKE FOR THE CHILDREN! How about if the fatties pay more in soda taxes? How about fatties pay more in fast food taxes? How about the school systems prohibit school sponsored sports programs? I know sports injuries cost all of us a lot of money in the form of higher healthcare premiums and the evidence is in the number of sports injury clinics all over the country and the ohio valley. lets be fair about the runaway cost of health care, stop blaming smokers! I'm sick of hearing that line of crap! Out of control health care costs are NOT caused by cigarettes or tobacco. It is caused by soda, alcohol, prescription drugs, King Obama and McDonalds!
