I am all for assisting the poor/needy, so long as they are trying to assist themselves. Daycare is expensive. I pay for my own daycare with no assistance, but I heard one mother talking this morning about her cost going up and someone else saying that some people pay up to $10 a day per kid. I wish I paid that little. I have heard that this mother will often drop off her kids and go home. Sorry but she should not be getting government assistance for daycare.

I feel someone that does get government assistance, such as food stamps, daycare assistance, etc. should basically have to be fully disclosed on when they work, their assets, their spending, etc. This mom for instance drives a vehicle that costs more than both mine & my wife's vehicles combined. Also if you are getting assistance, I am sorry but you shouldn’t have cable, smoke, drink, etc. Those are all luxuries and if you cannot afford to pay for your own necessities, then no luxuries for you. I have to budget, so should the

First bad parenting equals bad kids is correct, but not just the poor can be bad parents. All to often I see parents that have money be bad parents and you can tell by the way their children act or are allowed to act. My daughter recently attended a birthday party. Kid turned 7. It had karoke and those little girls were singing songs that they should not even be allowed to listen to, let alone know the words to. And the girls were acting like little witches for lack of a better term and the parents were fine with it. Cause they were paying a bit of attention to their children, to busy doing what they want to do.

The Legislature won't end poverty, as long as the federal government rewards the habitually lazy and irresponsible.

"Kessler told those present the Legislature will focus this year on ending child poverty, and he said all children have an equal right to health, education and opportunities."

franklin D roosevelt passed the first "war on poverty" bill in 1935!

If you can't afford to support a child, you shouldn't be procreating (especially without a spouse in the picture). Get some of that free gubmint contraception. It's not the responsibility of other taxpayers who have their own familes to support.

Probably some good reasons for helping out Miss Roskelly, but is she actually contributing to the tax base of the state? Isn't it almost mathmatically impossible for her to be in the 53% who pay taxes? Just asking the obvious
