Rep. Carolyn McCarthy Dem. wants a total ban on Guns and hopes the Pres. will also. Yes, Ms. McCarthy, you have found your future commie dictator. If only Obama could do away with that pesky congress, he could rule by decree..he is practicing up for when the time comes to him.

""Congress to ban military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines like those used in last month's massacre of 20 elementary school children in Newtown, Conn.""

The shooter used two handguns NOT an "assault weapon"..... never let the facts get in the way of a good story I guess. The Newton shooter did not have an assault weapon he had handguns and a shotgun...... And we trust these people to be honest???? Geesh.

The CONGRESS makes LAWS, NOT the President.

The Supreme Court INTERPRETS the Laws.

The President ENFORCES the laws.

Executive Orders do NOT amend the Constitution. This is a complete violation of the Constitution, as is passing NO BUDGET in 4 years, and OPIE should be impeached for it.

Sure takes attention away from the FAILED ECONOMY though, doesn't it???

There is nothing new about this, it was done before but Obama markets his ideas so we think this is some kind of first. I don't think it was very successful before as you cannot blame a machine for a person's hate, the hate comes from the person not from the device. I have gone to gun shows and for sure there are some dangerous personalities there, dressed in camo buying paramilitary equipment getting ready for the revolution or the cops or Jews or whatever hamsters R running around in their heads. Those people ARE Obama's poster people and they help gun ban ideas.Sellers encourage that crazienss for profits. Enforcement of current gun laws and actually sentencing violent people to jail terms would be a better start. Feds working with locals would be even better. How many times does the FBI alert local police that a prohibited person has been denied a firearm sale? Never. Locals know their people, be good for them to know a local crazy is seeking a firearm, huh?

Hey, Justmytake. I don't know where you get your "facts" but ABC News and the coroner that performed the autopsies on those poor 20 kids stated that the main weapon used to perform the carnage was, in fact, a Bushmaster assault weapon style rifle. Just about every account of the incident that I've read confirms this. So, never let the facts get in the way of a lousy comment.

does it really matter if the children slaughtered were killed with a gun that held 20/30 rounds vs a gun that held 7-10 rounds..they are just as dead and just as many could have been murdered...shooting with ten round "clips" as people call them..when one gets proficient with the weapon, it only takes an instant to drop it out and slip another 10 round "clip" in...These murders of defense less people are happening more and more because of our countries lack of Respect of Human Life...Most all of the country is somewhat to blame..for generations now, when children are born, many are taught that whatever one wants to do or think may be ok if it conforms to the Govts. way of thinking...lack of respect for the old, lack of respect for Christians, lack of respect for the traditional family..lack of respect for the unborn, lack of respect for other nations...WARs and the continual warring ways of our Govt. Lack of respect for the mentally nut jobs...cutting funding to keep

Nothing more ridiculous than Democrit Hollywood-bought Benghazigate Fast-and-Furious Opuppet decrying guns while making campaign appearances with and taking campaign contribution bribes from those same Hollywood string pullers who are making $millions$ by purveying the most gun-violent movies and video games you can imagine, tax-exempt, of course.

When you get done doing away with the Second Amendment by executive order, which one is next on your Constitution-dismantling agenda, Barry Benghazi Obankrupter?

mmm mmm mmm, who needs Congress?

watched and listened to Barry ..he is a very good actor..acting like obama..but if he really cares so much and is so broken up about all these little children murdered..Why can't he remember how many were actually murdered? He said 12 and later towards the end he said 25...Don't you think he could remember how many little ones were killed that day if it was really important to him

After the President's excellent speech it is now important that we all call McKinley and ask him the same questions the President asked. Ask him if he supports or does not support the proposals of the President and Vice President and, if not, why not. Also, while you're at it ask him if he supports the cowardly act of the NRA hierarchy using the President's children as pawns in this debate. What a bunch of chicken-hearted losers.

the...once: I will ocnsider your suggestion to discuss Mr McKinley's opinion on these "magic bullet" executive actions. If our representative is as easily fooled as the anti-gun lobby, I will express my disapproval at the next election.

By the way, why do you feel jsutified to critize the NRA's "for using children" as the NRA asks why Obama's children deserve armed secruity at their school and other children don't?

Do you really think that Obama made an execellent speech with his disingenuous use of "children who have written to him with concerns" (i.e., anti-gun parents using their children to speak for them) to tell the listener that if you don't believe his solution will stop evil you must have no concern for these children.

OMG, how much kool-aide can the liberals drink without vomiting.

Hitler and Saddam Hussein used children as propaganda props. Once again, obama uses them as well.

Here are a few other questions to ask your Congressman.

After that “universal background check” is done, and assuming I pass whatever standard Obama alone has decided to apply to me, and I take my gun home, what happens to the Government’s record that I now own that gun? Will that record be destroyed, so my ownership of a gun remains my business only?

Or will that record be publically available for a newspaper to publish my name and address as a gun owner, so gun thieves can add me to their “wish” list?

Will that “universal background check” list be maintained by the Government, so during the next iteration of “gun control” the Government can easily determine the gun I own is now illegal because it has some characteristic that now makes it an “assault weapon” – maybe a four round magazine next time?

What disqualifies me from purchasing a gun when that “universal background check” is done? Will only convicted felons and the “mentally ill” be disqualified from gun purchases? Or will yet to be specified misdemeanors, charges, or other tests be applied? And who decides what type or level of mental illness applies, whether it has been treated and controlled, or who is qualified to make that decision? Is there an appeal process?

Will passing that “universal background check” qualify me to purchase, own, and carry a gun anywhere in the USA, or will I still be subject to local laws that deny me my Second Amendment rights?

Still a few questions to be answered. But Obama moves forward on this anyway, because he never lets a crisis go to waste.

Come on Troll, you obviously didn't get a full dose of kool-aide.

Please report to your local government retraining center for further education.

"Here, Troll, have some more kool-aide..yes you will see those pretty colors again...in a few minutes you will understand that your need for a gun is actually a desire to protect yourself from those nasty Republicans."

In the end evil has a way of falling in on itself..it happened to Hitler, but not until after 50-60 million were killed...I have thought that Obama had some good in him..after today I can see none..for him to use the children the way he has and then not even remember how many were murdered shows his true reason for doing what he did today..hopefully his evil will fall in on him before millions and millions are killed

When will this idiot realize this is not going to change anything. Mentally ill people don't buy guns legally and limiting a 10 round clip, ok so you have 2,3,4 or more extra clips. As loghog said it only takes a second to change a clip.

Watching extremists squirm and blather useless BS shows how limited their brain functions are. Let us hope that common sense from the majority of Americans prevails. The majority wants common sense limits on magazines and assault rifles.

You have to take a test to become a legal driver and you have to renew that license every two to four years. Same laws should apply to gun ownership, pass a test and backround check every three years or so, also license the gun like an automobile and transfer of gun title when sold much like cars.
