cryptic messages

September 8, 2009 - Heather Ziegler
OK, it's going to come off as complaining, but hey sometimes it helps the blood pressure. Kind of like hugging a dog. I'm referring to recent e-mails and press releases that we've received that contain information that sometimes is difficult to understand since we are now a generation of texting, e-mailing, instant message and ABBREVIATING. Please understand that electronic communication is wonderful, fast and mostly efficient. That is until you have to make three phone calls to find out what the STPSW, etc. stands for. Really we don't know every organization and acronym out there. And when did a.m. and p.m. lose their periods? Happens all the time. How about the plural for bus. It's buses but there are many school districts who spell it busses. I think that's funny coming from a school office. Schools and businesses are notorious for assuming we know what they are talking about when they use a bunch of abbreviations and acronyms. Please don't make us guess. It's nice to write things out for everyone to understand. OK, that's my pet peeve today. But don't hold your breath. I haven't tried drivng to Wheeling from St. Clairsville yet.....Stay tuned.
