A Good Sign

July 27, 2009 - Phyllis Sigal
I was pleasantly surprised to see new shopping opportunities at the Ohio Valley Mall the other day.

I happened upon the new craft shop, Crafts 2000, and of course went in for a look around. It's huge, it's clean, it's got good prices and lots and lots and LOTS of stuff!

Not really much of a crafter, I walked out with a couple of greeting cards. But, if I WERE a crafter, i'd be very happy there! Actually, though, there are lots of other items beside things just for crafters.

I was given a map of the huge store — which, previously housed Steve & Barry's — and along with crafts items, there are party things, wrapping paper and ribbon, frames, baskets, posters, candles, home decor items and lots of holiday (whatever it may be) things, and much more.

So, in other words, you really don't have to be a crafter to find something to buy here.

In the same wing as Crafts 2000, I noticed the glow-in-the-dark indoor miniature golf course, Perry's Glo-Put. What fun! Seems like a great birthday party spot or a place to hang out while mom's shopping.

And, next to that was the Himalaya store, which has all kinds of "old hippie" favorites — lots of jewelry, t-shirts, bags, etc. I had a nice chat with shop proprietor P.D.

"Are you new?" I asked him. "I'm here on this earth 73 years," he answered. The shop, however has been there for seven years.

He noted that he's looking forward to the traffic from Crafts 2000. He saw more people that day than he's seen in a long time.

Next to Himaylaya is a salon, also fairly new. The Escape Spa and Nails offers skin care, manicures and pedicures, facial treatments, waxing and threading, eyelash extensions and massages.

So it sure is hopping in that wing of the mall!

A good sign in these tough financial times.
