Keep dogs on leash

July 20, 2009 - Heather Ziegler
The story about the little dog killed by two roaming pit bulls in Steubenville is so hard to hear. The little dog was with two young boys when the loose dogs attacked it. As far as I know, the two dogs that did the killing are still at large. It is by the grace of God those boys were not injured or killed as well. I do not have a dislike for any kind of dog but pit bulls that are this vicious give the breed a bad name. I still believe it's more how you raise an animal than breed that decides its disposition. I hope they catch those dogs and their owner or owners before someone else loses a pet or loved one. Everyday, I encounter people walking their dogs on leashes in Wheeling. There are very few who allow their dogs to run free. However, if I see a dog coming toward me and it's not on a leash I am concerned no matter what kind of dog it is. Just because your dog is "friendly" doesn't mean everyone wants him or her to jump up their leg. Good pet owners make good, safe neighbors.
