Thank you to everyone for their prayers and well wishes for my mom after she suffered a broken hip and subsequently underwent hip replacement surgery two and a half weeks ago.
After spending a week with her, I am more convinced than ever that she is Superwoman! Her medical team has been impressed with her progress. The constant cheerleading of these professionals has really aided Mom's quick recovery. Yes, she's strong, fit and healthy; but, as many people who fight physical setbacks know, half the battle is fought in your head.
This broken hip has been an ordeal, no doubt, but Mom is a Triple Threat -- she has a strong body, a determined mind and, last but not least, a blessed spirit. She knows many, many people were (and are) praying for her, and she believes firmly in the power of prayer.
While Facebook has its detractors, I was positively amazed at the responses I got from my FB "friends" when I posted a status message about mom's fall. I have Facebook friends from every part of my life -- childhood, high school, college, various jobs, church affiliations, internships, travel experiences, parents of my daughter's friends, and the list goes on. People from every category commented about mom -- from a middle school chum to an old family friend I haven't seen in 25 years to my college roommate to my current neighbor across the street.
The outpouring was touching, to say the least, and I shared it with my mom who couldn't quite grasp the scope of it. Suffice it to say, she knew she was well prayed for, and every little utterance was appreciated!
So, again, from Mom and from me: Thank you!
