It's Coming . . .Abramoff the Movie

May 24, 2009 - Joselyn King
His story involves Indians and gambling, a suspected mob murder, and a now infamous golf trip to Scotland with high-powered politicos.

And it includes one of the Ohio Valley's own -- former U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio.

Anyone who followed the case of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff knows it had all the elements of a Hollywood movie, or at least one that could be made in Canada.

Filming on "Casino Jack," is set to start in Toronto, Canada this month, according to movie industry newsletters. Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has been tapped to play Abramoff by director George Hickenlooper.

But you have to wonder who will play Ney in the movie, as it's likely his persona will figure prominently into the plot.

Reports from Welland, Ontario, indicate that Hickenlooper has asked to film scenes at the Lochness Links golf course there. The Canadian golf course would double as St. Andrews in Scotland. That's where Abramoff, Ney and others flew in a private jet for a reported expensive golf holiday paid for by Texas Indian tribes seeking to regain gambling on their reservations.

You got to wonder who might play Ney? Michael Douglas? Conan O'Brien? Any other suggestions for the producers?
