Super Black and Gold Food

Every year when it comes time for the Super Bowl, my husband and I try to figure out the appropriate food for the festivities. Often we base it on the teams playing.

For example, if New England is playing, we think about clam chowder or clam dip. Rice-a-roni for San Francisco? Primanti-style sandwiches and pierogies for Pittsburgh. Philly steak and cheese for the Eagles. Crab for Baltimore. We just like to have fun with it.

But today we were actually trying to come up with black and gold food.

Squid ink sauce over saffron pasta was an upscale suggestion. Just kidding! But, it would be a beautifully black-and-gold dish.

Black bean and corn salsa with cheddar cheese and golden tortilla chips would be a nice black and gold treat.

How about blackened wings with a mustard sauce ... or a golden sweet-n-sour sauce? Goldfish crackers with a dollop of black caviar? An interesting combination if you really think about it!

Potato skins topped with cheddar cheese and black beans. That sounds good!

But, there just aren't that many black food items that I can think of.

With just a couple of more days to go, we better figure out the menu!

Any suggestions?
