Like losing an old friend
October 28, 2008 - Heather Ziegler
It was with a sad heart I learned that Value City in Benwood would be closing. You see, I still ache over the loss of Hills Department Store in Benwood. My son met Santa Claus for the first time at Hills. Corny, but it's a memory anyway. It really tells you something about the economy when discount stores can't make it in the Ohio Valley. I like Value City. I can always find something there if searching for a clothing item or a last-minute gift I needed. Heck, I remember when there was a Value City uptown in Wheeling but I won't talk about all those stores that are gone. That's just too much to bear in the wake of this latest store-about-to-close news. I was hoping the store was just moving to The Highlands but bankruptcy signals the demise of the business. Pay her a visit soon. Be nice, she has been a good neighbor. She came back after the floods. She stayed open late before the holidays. She provided work to lots of people. Another old friend, parting ways.
