Lock it up
April 21, 2008 - Heather Ziegler
There is a story in tonight's News-Register that most people might read and say it's just another story about thieves. Well, I think it says much more. It's about some folks in Belmont County who got ripped off by perhaps a gang of thieves or just a few unscrupulous people. Whatever the case, expect more. There isn't a store or place I visited this past weekend where someone was not lamenting over the high price of gasoline, heating oil, food and extra curricular activities. I know that the state of the economy is eating into everyone's budget fast and furiously these days. That's why you will see even more thefts, robberies and other crimes as people become desperate. I hate to be downer, but be careful out there. Lock up your sheds and garages and don't even think of leaving a lawn mower or gas can in your yard. Lock your house even when you are home and keep you car doors locked when parked or when you are driving around. Ladies, never put your purse on the seat next to you; put it on the floor. The same goes for computers and briefcases. Put them out of sight. Keep your eye on your neighbors as the only way to deter crime is to keep it at bay. Call the police if you notice anything out of the ordinary. We will get through this bad time in our history, but we have to do it together.
