CentreTown Then Center Stage
March 18, 2008 - Phyllis Sigal
Country music star Trace Adkins was in town last weekend thrilling the audience at WesBanco Arena Saturday night. But before he took the stage, he took to the gym and thrilled the work-out crowd at CentreTown Fitness center.
Saturday afternoon, around 1 p.m., he was spotted working out on an exercise cycle, sporting a ballcap — not his usual cowboy hat. He was joined by his bass guitar player, apparently.
This info came from one of my workout buddies, Debbie Dudzik of Martins Ferry. She was walking toward the water fountain at the Center Wheeling gym when she saw a guy walking out of the locker room. The pony tail caught her attention.
She mentioned to someone that the guy looked like Trace Adkins, and sure 'nough, it was. "He's at the civic center tonight," she was told.
So, she mustered up some courage and went up to him and said, "I knew you weren't going to get kicked off 'The Apprentice.'"
He's featured on the current "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC. The celebrities are playing for their favorite charity. His is FAAN (Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network). Why? Because his daughter, who is now 6, had a severe reaction to peanut butter when she was a toddler.
Anyway, the hunky country man, looked at her and said, "Thanks, ma'am." If he'd had a cowboy hat on, I bet he would've tipped it in her direction as he spoke the words.
That was it. "He's pretty quiet," Debbie noted. Not too many others bothered him much as he went about his exercise routine, which also included lifting some weights. He pretty much "kept to himself," Debbie said.
She described him as "tall, a smaller build than she expected."
And as soon as she saw his "crooked smile and heard his deep voice," she knew for sure it was him.
I, unfortunately, got my workout in earlier in the day — and missed his appearance!
