December 26, 2007 - Heather Ziegler
It's over and there are some Christmas gifts that will live long in the memories of our newspaper reporters. The best present was delivered last week when Wheeling police and FBI reported they had caught the alleged North Wheeling kidnapper/rapist. Every news outlet was thrilled to have some good news to report to the public just before Christmas. There has been too much sadness and tragedy -- from robberies to house fires -- the news has been especially tough right before the holidays. We take our hats off to the men and women who did not let the rape case fall by the wayside. It would have been easier to focus on other crimes, but locally and in other states where the man was caught, no one let up. Perhaps it was the added pain of knowing an 11-year-old girl was among the alleged rapist's victims. Whatever the catalyst, let me express all of our appreciation for the work to help us have a safer, happier holiday.
