Phyllis' Fantasy Football

December 1, 2007 - Phyllis Sigal
I have talked more about football in the past few days than I have in my entire life.

WHY? Because I am at this very second rooting for Pitt to win tonight's game against WVU in the 100th backyard brawl between the two teams. That's quite a long-standing rivalry!

I suppose many out there could tell me that this game is not "fantasy football." Even the sportscasters this morning on ESPN Game Day (yes, I actually was watching that while on the eliptical at CentreTown) barely gave the game a mention. I'm supposing that means that they don't look for the game's outcome to be the upset that I'm hoping for.

I graduated from Pitt in 1980. I was there during the years of Dan Marino and Hugh Green ... both of whom are College Football Hall of Famers. Pitt went to the Tangerine Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl during my tenure.

I know that if WVU wins, they will be in the national championship game against Missouri. Unless Missouri loses, and then Ohio State will play WVU. That's what many Ohio Valley football fans are hoping for ... a WVU vs. OSU championship game. That's certainly good for the economy! Those who sell T-shirts and the like are certainly geared up for that possibility.

Sometimes I wonder, "Who is this person talking about football?"

In just a few hours we'll know who won and who plays whom.

And I can go back to my normal life — where I don't particularly care about football. Until the next backyard brawl. Well, I do like to watch the Super Bowl, but that's just for the commercials.

But for now, GO PITT!!!!

Stay tuned for the next chapter of Phyllis' Football Fantasy.
