What Makes You Happy?
May 15, 2014 - Betsy Bethel
It’s been a loooooonnggg winter, and more than ever, I am looking forward to warm summer evenings spent with family and friends! Being stuck inside for all those months led to me getting stuck in a rut of boredom, inactivity and ... well, just, blah.
But then along comes the Summer Survival Guide, an annual special edition of OV Parent magazine, which I edit, I am now starting to get excited about being out and about and enjoying all the Ohio Valley has to offer! If you’re looking for stuff to do this summer, the Summer Survival Guide is your resource — it has summer camps, libraries, vacation?Bible schools, farmers’ markets and local happenings including weekly concerts, movie nights and fairs. For exciting excursions farther afield (within about three hours’ drive), the centerspread has a destination guide with all the pertinent info to plan your trip. The Summer Survival Guide is free and available at libraries, schools, day cares, doctor's offices and retail outlets throughout the Ohio Valley, from Jefferson County, Ohio down to Wetzel County, W.Va. Most of it also will be going online this week -- you can view it for free at www.ovparent.com.
Other than getting out in the community more, here’s a quick list I jotted down of things I want to include in my life more often:
— Dance (in my living room, on the waterfront, in line at the grocery store, whatever and wherever!)
— Sing (in the shower, in my car, in my backyard ... I love to sing!)
— Hug (I recently learned six-second hugs, six times a day, is a target number. I’m in!)
— Laugh (And not just at the memes on Facebook ...)
— Play bagpipes (Yeah, I do that. And I want to find time to do it more!)
— Eat healthy, delicious food (Enough said.)
— Help others (I don’t do nearly enough of this.)
— Worship God (I tend to miss church too often in the summer. I’d like to change that and also find other ways to worship — see above!)
— Write letters/cards/notes and send via snail mail (This is becoming a lost art. I want to find it again.)
— Go to the lake (any lake will do!)
— Do all these things the with people I love!!!!
Living a full — and fulfilling — life is a gift only I can give myself, and it not only benefits me but also my family.
ENJOY the summer!
