With Apologies to Clement Clark Moore ...

December 22, 2011 - Phyllis Sigal
'Twas the second night of Chanukah, and all through the house, the lingering sent of frying oil wafted about; The menorah was awaiting its second night of lights, While Bruce was cooking up some delicious delights.

When out on the sidewalk, there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the kitchen, to see was the matter. Away to the front door, I flew like a flash, Ran out on the porch, stopped before I would crash.

The air was warm, with the rain held at bay, I listened and looked and was just amazed! When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a group of Brownies and their chaperone dears.

With voices so lovely, singing under the moon. It wasn't the expected Christmas caroling tune. "Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah," the words came tumbling out! So touched by their song, my tears began to spout.

Then together we sang the blessing, lit our menorah, And stood in the glow of the Chanukah candelabra. The girls asked lots of questions to find out some more, And Bruce shared a bit of our holiday lore.

To Brownie Troop 8054 from Steenrod Elementary, My heartfelt, heartfelt thanks do come a-plenty! To troop leaders Betsy and Jenn and chaperones, too, Merry Christmas to you all and thanks, from this Jew!

I am looking for:
