Look out this weekend
November 30, 2011 - Heather Ziegler
It's beginning to look a LOT like Christmas... the lights are on at the Winter Festival of Lights at Oglebay, area cities and towns are glowing with their holiday lights, Centre Market looks warm and inviting and all around the area, homes and businesses are putting on their best holiday decorations. Have you seen the Christmas stuff at Lowe's? They've got some neat things for decorating and not the run of the mill stuff. And if you stop at Waller's in Wheeling it's just like going to the festival of trees. The Teacher's Store has some interesting things, too, many with team affiliations. With the Super Six playing out on Wheeling Island this weekend, it's a sure bet that traffic will be nuts all around the area. Be mindful of the visitors and be patient when they are driving around, sometimes lost. It's a sure bet that traffic will be heavy going to Oglebay this weekend to the lights festival. While Thanksgiving weekend is usually the first big night of traffic for that light show, that didn't seem to be a problem. So my guess is that this weekend will be busy. Remember there are several roads leading to Oglebay so try an alternate route (GC&P Road, Peters Run, Wardens Run, etc.) The best nights to view the lights really are through the week when there is less traffic. Please don't turn off your headlights when you are driving through the park. People do this but it's not safe. The roads are dark (no street lights) and the are few guardrails and no lines on the road so pay attention when driving. The deer are running wild, too, right now so be mindful of them when heading to the park.
