About the ring...

April 14, 2011 - Heather Ziegler
Men just don't get it for the most part. This fascination we ladies have with royal weddings that is. It's all about fairy tales when we amuse ourselves with the details of the upcoming wedding of Prince William and his lady love, Kate. Of course, we Americans don't go overboard as much as the Brits but I do find all the souvenirs being offered a real kick. There's everything from dolls to refrigerator magnets bearing the wedding couple's faces for sale. It kind of takes us back to our Barbie doll days when we could imagine a princess wedding. We can't wait to see the wedding gown that Kate will wear and the usually frumpy outfits worn by the bridesmaids and the queen. We will comment on their outrageous and sometimes stunningly beautiful hats -- because hats are required at such royal affairs. William gave Kate that lovely ring that was his mother's engagement ring. You know the one that is being copied in every jewelry store and magazine on the market. It's a very non-traditional engagement ring with a large sapphire surrounded by diamonds. I think it is lovely gesture to give Kate that ring but I imagine every bride would love to select her own diamond ring or at least drop some hints to her fiance about what she likes. Maybe the late Princess Diana's ring would have made a great anniversary gift instead. And poor Kate, she has to guard that ring with her life. If she's like most brides, we tend to misplace our rings a couple of times over the years, sending us into a panick only to discover the rings are where we left them on top of the radio in the kitchen or wherever!
