I just don't get it

I don't get why ...
... movie trailers showing explosions, massive loss of life, hideous beasts and all other manner of gore and mayhem are shown before kids' movies like "Toy Story 3."
... families of divorce are called "broken." In some cases, families actually function much better after divorce.
... communities legalize gambling in hopes of making money off it, then end up spending more money on fighting crime and providing services for individuals — and their families — adversely affected by gambling.
... we pay beaucoup bucks for safe city water and then go to the store and pay again for another city's water because it comes in nifty 16-ounce bottles.
... we complain about the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter — Hello? They're supposed to be like that!
... we feed our children high-fat, high-sugar, highly processed foods and then despair that they are fat.
... school is still out for 10 weeks in the summer. Ten weeks during which there would NEVER be a problem getting a school bus up a hill. Ten weeks ... even though everyone knows children need at least a couple weeks to re-train their brains after such a long break (which means a couple wasted weeks of new instruction). Ten weeks ... for which parents who both work full time have to scramble to figure out safe and affordable care for their kids. Ten weeks?! I just don't get it.
